Finishing services
We offer a small selection of finishing and binding services in-house. If your project requires finishing that is not listed below, we are happy to print your press sheets for you to send to a bindery/finisher of your choosing.
Book Binding
Saddle Stitch
This is our most popular zine binding method. Folded sheets (folios) are gathered together one inside the other and then stapled in the middle with wire staples. This type of binding is recommended for books that are 8-44 pages.
Plastic Coil (Spiral)
Plastic coil binding is a great way to bind both large and small books with loose pages. It enables for a completely lay-flat view of the book. Plastic coil comes in almost every color imaginable, and we will special order in the color of your choice.
There is no minimum or maximum page limit for spiral coil.
Twin Loop (Wire-O)
Similar to plastic coil, twin loop binding is a great way to bind both large and small books with loose pages. It enables for a completely lay-flat view of the book. Made from metal instead of plastic, Wire-o color options are more limited than plastic coil. There is no page minimum or maximum page limit for wire-o.
Perfect Binding
Perfect binding is a popular binding style most commonly used on soft cover books and magazines. We outsource perfect binding to a local finisher we know and trust. Their binding machine can handle books as small as 4" x 4" or as large as 15" x 12" and up to 2.25" thick. We recommend perfect binding for books larger than 44 pages.
Finishing
Trimming, Folding, Scoring
We offer finished trim services, folding, and scoring in-house. Cards, brochures, and any project with 2 folds or less can easily be completed in our studio. Projects with more complicated folding requirements may need to be outsourced to another finisher.
Soft-Touch Matte Laminating
Riso prints are notorious for smudging. If your project has heavy ink coverage and will be handled a lot, laminating helps to lock in all of the Riso ink and make it completely smudge proof. The finish is a clear matte coating with a soft touch feel.
This service is recommended for:
- Book covers
- Business cards
This service is not recommended for the following:
- Text weight papers
- Metallic gold ink - the shine is dulled by the laminating process
