Thermography is a process where wet ink is dusted with a fine resin powder and exposed to heat. The resin and ink fuse together, raising the areas where the resin has coated. Thermography is best used on type or smaller details as it becomes uneven when applied to large areas.
We use a clear, gloss resin powder which sticks to any of our ink colors. We also stock a clear Riso ink which is for use specifically with thermography. The clear ink and the clear powder can be applied to any area to give the printing a spot gloss and raised treatment.
We can also get thermography powders in a wide range of colors and finishes, such as metallic gold or silver powder. For more information, please reach out to us directly.
Riso prints are notorious for smudging. If your project has heavy ink coverage and will be handled a lot, top-coating helps to lock in all of the Riso ink and make it completely smudge proof.
We screen print a custom mixed blend of water based top coating sealant onto each sheet. The finish is a clear matte coating. This service is recommended for:
- Book covers
- Business cards
- Playing cards
This service is not recommended for the following:
- Projects using metallic gold ink (it dulls the shimmer of the ink)
- Art prints
- Text weight papers
